Hollywood movies are written with certain things in mind.  One of the big ones?  Resolve all the storylines.  Don’t leave things hanging.

So it was perfectly written that the National League Championship Series ended with Matt Holliday popping up to Marco Scutaro.  In the rain.  And the Cardinals’ season ended on an infield fly.

Baseball Gods?  Maybe.  But all was right in the rainy world last night.

Rain?  Bother San Francisco?  Did you see that crowd?  I didn’t put my jacket on.  I was raised at Candlestick, kid.  That was a damn pleasant rainfall, even if the train smelled a little…er, I’ll say damp.

We’ll worry about the Tigers tomorrow.  Everyone else seems to think the Tigers don’t need to be worried about anything.  Seriously.

Wait, are those states colored in….Texas Rangers red?  Or bitter, bitter, Cardinals’ tears after losing?

The Giants are still being counted out.  One day, America, you’ll learn.  Until then…enjoy watching the heart of a team, and the roar of a crowd that’ll make even the loudest Tiger whimper with intimidation.

Last night was my first time seeing the Giants clinch a playoff series in person.  It took me running seven blocks in five minutes from work to catch a train.  And it was worth it.

This crowd is magic.  This team’s fans are magic.  This time of year is magic.

Congratulations to the Detroit Tigers for making this a true Orange October.  But don’t think that your Cy Young ace, your Triple Crown winner, or your Prince intimidates this team, or these fans.  You don’t know AT&T Park in October.  Yankee Stadium and its empty seats won’t prepare you.  The Oakland Coliseum and its tarped off upper deck doesn’t come close.  This place makes line drives take right turns.  We celebrate thongs and give standing ovations to rainstorms.  You hit a ball on top of the fence, and the fence will throw the damned ball back.  And while you’re lost in the sunset, with the orange flares of the sunset being reflected back at you by the houses of the Oakland Hills, and the noise of 42,000 of the best fans in baseball drowning out your thoughts (and Joe Buck and Tim McCarver), this team will take the game from you.

It’s Series Time.  And Giants fans, I’m proud and honored to stand among you.
