Clothing is an important part of being a fan.  You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but you can usually tell a sports fan by what he wears.  Unlike what some people think, being a fan isn’t about wrapping yourself in a team’s color, or buying hundreds of dollars worth of gear.

Sometimes the best things are the old things.  Any time I see a Giants fan with a true ’80’s outfit (and not a recently purchased throwback item), I have to give them props.  Old jerseys or jackets that have had patches added over the years are like rings on a tree.  Those things might not get worn every week, but they have been worn longer than most.

But you don’t have to go overboard.  The attention-seekers aren’t always the biggest fans.  They might be there more to get their own attention than to root for a team.  That’s not always true…but it’s true more often than you think.
