I feel bad for Sandy Rosario.  I really do.

Something stinks in that transaction history, though.  Especially the A’s trade and waiving sort of a deal.  One of two things are happening.  Either every team that gets him suddenly sees something undesirable about him, and then feels he’s not worth it anymore (unlikely), or every team that has had him sees him as worth having, but not worth keeping on the 40-man roster, so they try waiving him to get him into the minors.  That makes more sense.

Are the Giants the team to hold onto him?  Probably not…

Rosario’s made just 10 appearances over the last three years in the majors, and hasn’t looked great while doing so, but he’s had solid minor league numbers, especially a 1.04 ERA as a Triple-A closer.  He’s had a pretty good walk-rate in the minors, and even strikes out people at a good clip.  There’s potential there, no doubt.

Eventually, someone will hang onto him until Spring Training, when he’ll get a shot to win a spot in the majors, and if he doesn’t get it, he’ll get waived at the end of March to try to get into the minors again.  I expect that’s the team that will get to keep him.  I wouldn’t mind it if it were the Giants.
