I admit it: I feel bad for Pablo Sandoval.

Don’t get me wrong, this is no one’s fault but his.  He’s made some bad choices, in terms of advisors, and in terms of self-care.  Keeping in shape as a professional athlete, with a Major League team, there are enough opportunities presented, and with his cash, plenty of good advisors that could be contracted.

But one thing that is true is that Pablo got spoiled by San Francisco.  An organization that is welcoming, fans who were open and forgiving, so long as he put in enough work.  I genuinely believe that is one reason that Pablo put forth the effort; the fans didn’t boo him outright, they cheered him and supported him.  Boston, meanwhile, was snarky and disapproving from the outset.  He was already a villain…and now he’s becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

He needs to put in the work to be better.  He did after losing his starting job in 2010.  Maybe he will this time.  Maybe.

But one undeniable fact: he’ll never have it as good as he had it here.
