I think any baseball fan, no matter what team they follow, can relate to this.

It’s not that we don’t appreciate the support (sympathy?) from others.  It’s just that the many unique terminologies used by baseball compared to other sports make it obvious when a non-fan is trying to relate to a baseball fan.  I’ve seen other friends of mine who are serious fans who bring along obvious non-fans, and they always seem embarrassed when the non-fans say something like this.

Except, universally, when it’s a beautiful girl.

There’s probably something culturally relevant there, but I won’t explore it.

(BTW, I’m not trying to imply that all women are baseball-novices.  For those who don’t know, our partner site SFDugout was founded by a huge baseball fan who is a woman.  Perhaps the most important person who currently writes for the site is a woman.  And not long from now, you’ll meet other women in the Lunatic Fringe.)
