Somewhere, deep down, there is the comfort that we actually trust a GM like Brian Sabean to pick up seemingly-underwhelming but overwhelmingly effective pitchers like Tim Hudson and Jake Peavy.

Somewhere, deep down, there is the dread that this may end up being a long-ish-term contract to Jake Peavy and/or Ryan Vogelsong.

But when Sabean keeps pulling it off, it’s unsettlingly comfortable.
