Even in 2011, the San Francisco Giants were in it until late in the season…You have to go back to 2009 to find a season the Giants were out of it…which isn’t that long ago, come to think of it.
Why can’t I remember how to handle a losing season?
The Giants are in a three-way tie for the fifth pick in the draft right now (which would end them up being 7th, the way the tiebreakers go). It’s a tight draft pick race right now, with only two games separating all the teams between #5 and #13, which is a HUGE drop off in any draft. Right now, the top picks of the draft next year are loaded with pitchers of all kinds and high school position players. It should be a good year to draft high, but not a lot of fast-movers.
It’s going to be a rough couple of months, but it will be fun to see how the draft might work out to help rebuilding this team down the line, even though I don’t think this team has a lot of rebuilding to do this year.
