The Lunatic Fringe

The allure of free stuff is practically as ingrained in our culture as the American flag.  I get that.  But last season, it was at an all-time high.  I took a girl to the ‘Wearable Blanket’ night specifically to get them (don’t ask…), and we showed up an hour-and-a-half ahead of gametime, usually enough to get a giveaway.

Nope.  Long gone.

This only happens for the cool giveaways.  It used to be pins, back in the Candlestick days.  Now, it’s more often the bobbleheads.  Forget the canvas bags, or the keychains.  But last year, the ‘Wearable Blanket’ took off.  I wouldn’t be surprised if I see that happen again this year, but if I look at this year’s giveaway schedule, and if anything might surprise people as a popular giveaway this year, it’s gotta be the fedora.

On the other hand, there’s got to be a better name for it than ‘Wearable Blanket’.  I get we can’t use a brand name like ‘Snuggie’, but isn’t there a better name?  Then again, the name I keep hearing is ‘Slanket’.

Yea, I’ll stick with ‘Wearable Blanket’ until someone comes up with something better.
